Larissa Shmailo

Larissa Shmailo is an accomplished author and poet, editor, and writing teacher with decades of experience working with writers across genres and stages of development.

She is the author of two novels and six poetry collections, and her work has appeared in more than thirty anthologies. In addition to her work as a writer, Larissa has edited multiple literary collections and has long been engaged in the close, attentive reading of contemporary writing. This depth of experience informs her ability to recognize what is working on the page and to articulate how a piece can grow.

For more than six years, Larissa has been teaching The Writing Resilience Workshop, a practice-based workshop designed for writers who want to develop steadiness, discipline, and continuity in their work. The workshop emphasizes sustained practice, careful listening, and thoughtful feedback rather than performance or productivity pressure. For some writers, sustained practice becomes a grounding force during periods of personal difficulty, with the discipline of the work supporting reflection, resilience, and healing over time.

Larissa brings a clear, focused facilitation style to the workshop, maintaining a steady structure that keeps the emphasis on the work itself. Her feedback — both written and verbal — is direct, specific, and grounded in close reading, offering writers concrete insight into what is happening on the page.

As a natural extension of this work, Larissa has edited and published anthologies drawn from the Writing Resilience community. These collections reflect the long-term development of writers who have committed to consistent practice and revision. Publication is never presented as a promise or endpoint, but as one possible outcome of serious, sustained work.

In addition to The Writing Resilience Workshop, Larissa offers one-on-one writing coaching and publication support for writers seeking individualized guidance. For a free 15-minute consultation with Larissa, book here.
